I just picked up a nice basket hilt without the red fabric inside the the hilt. What kind of belt should I get, because my kilt does not have belt loops. Any suggestions appreciated.

The sword does not hang from the waist belt... in fact, the proper name for the belt worn with a kilt is "dirk belt", as that's what they would have hung from it... if you do choose to wear a broadsword (can't imagine why you'd want to, unless you were reenacting), you'd want a badric. It goes over your shoulder. Do a search for that.

G. Gedney Godwin has some reasonably priced baldrics for Highlanders of the Revolutionary War period.

I've had one for almost 30 years and its still holding up just fine.

Ooo... That IS a nice one!

But it will only work with a scabbard that has a frog button. I wonder if the OP's scabbard is a metal affair with two rings?

Then bingo! That link up there has exactly what you need. Throw away the waist belt frog and get that baldric.

A Scottish broadsword would be ridiculous to wear on your waist belt... at the least, the basket would pound your ribs into dust. Check out some photos, if you'll not take my word.

If the scabbard has rings, you may want to consider something like a Sam Brown belt (What Price Glory has them), or a Civil War sword belt (lots of Civil War vendors carry them and you can select from a large number of buckles), or even a clip-on affair that has the sword slings and clips on and off to just about any belt (it was popular in the post-CW army) (I think S&S Firearms carries these).

Admittedly, a baldric looks so much better than a waistbelt, but these are some options.

Interesting, I just found information on the Rob Roy vs Alasdair Stewart Swords and the story of finding them (and questions if they truly are the swords and if the legend is correct).

A Baldric is a great idea because honestly if you wear the sword, you'll want to be able to take it off to sit down. Museum Replicas has one that should also work and is a little cheaper.

If you want to wear it on a kilt belt then you can probably rig up a two strap hanger like this one at any decent saddle and tack shop. Real cheap would just be an angled sword frog. Those two are just examples, I don't necessarily recommend those particular products.

AH!! AH!! NO!! BAD!! Museum Replicas sell crap!! It's the same leather that JC Penny use for their belts, which means it's like the leather version of particle board, with a lovely cover glued on. Those have a tendency to fall apart. Really, those are meant for rapier style swords; not broadswords. The baldric is by far the best option.
