    Antique Arrowhead Kiltpin

So I'm cleaning out some old stuff and I find an arrowhead pin. Its the type of thing my maternal grandfather would do and from where I found it I'm pretty sure it was his handiwork.

He'd wrapped wire around the arrowhead and made an open latch for it on the back - probably for my grandmother to wear with a dress or scarf. With no safety latch on the back I put a piece of rubber band on the pin to secure it and looped a small rubber band around it to hold the pin in the latch. Might look a tad weird that way but don't think its that noticeable from a distance.

Needed a kilt pin for my new Cameron Modern from Rocky so matched them up.

Sounds like a good idea, Riverkilt.

That's pretty dadgone cool, Ron, and even better that it was your grandfather's. Any guess as to where he got the arrowhead?

Well, he was born in 1872 and grew up in South Dakota and Montana. He was a Stanley County, S.D. Deputy in the late 1800s and much admired the Brule' and had many Brule' things given to him. Knowing him, he could have created it himself too.

What a great addition to you kilt(s)! I hope we get to see you wearing it sometime.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

    Great idea!
However, who are or what is "the Brule' ", and how is the word pronounced?

Wow, what a great thing to have as a kilt pin. Don't wear it around me as I will probably have to fight you for it. How lucky can you get?????

The Brulé are one of the seven branches or bands (sometimes called "sub-tribes") of the Teton (Titonwan) Lakota Sioux American Indian nation.

They were called Brulé (lit. "burnt") by the French. (It is said the name may have derived from an incident where they were fleeing through a grass fire on the plains.) You can hear an audio pronunciation of the word here, however its basically pronounced "Bru-lay".
