    Re: Triskaidekaphobia - Joshua's Training

I missed Saturday's session so I could MC a strongman competition all day.

It was very cold, very windy, and I'm sunburned all to heck. I was sore for 3 days afterwards, just by standing in the cold for 9 hours. I didn't anticipate the cold so I wore a polo shirt with an 8-yard kilt, at least I wore my docs so my feet were warm. My hands were the coldest throughout the day, having no pockets to keep them warm and holding a clipboard and microphone, so I could not tuck them under my arms (plus I was continually fighting the wind, using my clipboard to keep the kilt down...

Next year I'll make sure to wear a sweater.

    Re: Triskaidekaphobia - Joshua's Training

Good easy day today in the gym. Lots of "move stuff fast" work, and a few squats.
Sorry for the crummy and choppy video, since upgrading to lion I seem to have misplaced my iMovie so I'm using some really crappy software to crop the vid... and the snatch vid was from my cellphone, the other two vids of the cleans were from my tablet - which seems to take better videos.

    Lots of stretching

Power Snatch to Hang Power Snatch complex (two power snatches per "rep", first one off the floor, second one from the hang).
    1x40kg, 1x45kg, 1x50kg, 1x55kg, 1x60kg, 1x65kg, 1x70kg (154lbs)

    Power Cleans
    1x70kg, 75kg, 80kg, 85kg, 90kg (in the vid), 95kg, 100kg (in the vid)

    Front Skwatz
    3x70kg (154lbs), 5 singles at 100kg (220lbs)

Working on joining a new gym soon... which means more than *one* weekly session and more playtime with kettlebells, jumping boxes, and indian clubs.

    HERE IS THE VIDEO

You're cracking me up, Josh. You're in Florida and complaining about how cold it was at the comp. The temperature dropped down into the 60's? LOL!

We had a family down competing from Michigan who were freezing their respective asses off, dear sir. Where I was, the temperature was around 42* but the wind was constantly blowing. In fact, among the competitors there were a half-dozen out-of-staters that were all wearing jackets/hoodies and complaining about how cold it was.

Trust me, I'm made from harder stuff, but for some reason, 50* in coastal Florida feels like mid-30's. And the fact that I didn't dress properly seals the deal - as I was assuming that the day was not going to be cold. I'm not a Florida native, and I enjoy cooler weather... this was cold.

Elliot is an amazing resource. How did that work out? I'd love to hear his thoughts.

I've known Elliot since his first strongman training day, the dude eats knowledge and craps strength... he's a good guy.

When I asked about a throwers regimen, he basically confirmed what I had already known, which is good. He said that jumps, olympic lifts, and plyometrics would be the best course of action. His gym is the place I'm going to be training at, so hopefully I can bend his ear a bit more often as time goes by.

You got it done there Josh! Thanks for posting this up, and running this whole log. I am training for my first ever Heavy Games, and learned much just from reading your posts and the good feedback from the experienced forum members. Any chance you'll make it to the 2012 Minnesota Scottish Fair and Highland Games???

... time for my own workout on this end! Thanks for the motivation!!
