Thanks for the tip, Anne. Actually I fudged to the larger side of the hip measurement, but I see what you mean. I'll fudge more on the next one. My hip measurement is the same as my waist but I have a rather pronounced "front porch", so getting the hip measurement right with respect to having the apron fall straight was problematic, as in "a crap shoot" - (roll of the dice).

Ah - well there is measurements and there is shape.
To get the front of the kilt to hang straight down from the 'bay window' you need to enclose some fresh air, and you need to create shaping in the pleats - narrowing into the small of the back - the thread in General Kilts on the new Tewksbury kilt has an excellent photo of that.
Fitting is an art, so getting as good as that on the first one is good work.
