My New Sgian Dubh arrived today.

[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]My Real Sgian Dubh arrived today and I couldn't be more pleased. Terry did an awesome job. The whole process was easy and rather fun. I contacted Terry through his link here (I think) and after agreeing between us that a sgian dubh would be commissioned we set about discussing how it would look. I chose the style of blade and the thistle carving and Terry selected the sterling silver maple leaf for the butt (symbols of the link between our two countries, Canada and Scotland). The blade is made from a metal working file and the handle from cherry. I'll let Terry explain where the wood came from, it's a cool story in itself. Along the way I got to see photo's of the progress so I wasn't surprised that it looks great when I received it. Now hopefully here are some photos

It has a real edge, but I'm a little anal about th sharpness of my tools so I'll probably strop it a little with green compound on leather.

Now I'm all the much more looking forward to receiving my own blade from Terry. Yours looks awesome! Congrats!

(And I agree, Terry makes it easy to negotiate the features for a custom knife, and the photos he sends of his work in progress do add an element of fun to the jonesing.
