Well this is turning out to be a major surprise. It looks as though we might all have to accept the fact that Jacobite/Ghillie/Pirate/Poofy shirts are more popular than previously thought. The results so far are -
Yep love em - 20
Nope they are the devils work - 9
Dont mind either way AC/DC - 10
Slightly stirring in the nethers - 1 (2 if you include Zardoz but I dont think thats the shirt)
Guess its all round to Turbokitties dressed as Capt Jack Sparrow then.
Kind regards- Simon

I don't own one (mostly because when I started my kilting adventures I was wearing 3XL to 4XL shirts and I thought the markup on the bigger sized shirts wasn't justifiable).
I would own one, in fact Grizz if you remember your first post I defended your blue Highland Pirate shirt. I probably wouldn't wear it when going out with friends for our pub crawls, but I can see their place at ren faires. Now that I've made it to a more reasonable size I think I'm going to look for a pattern and have my wife make one instead from natural muslin, but instead make a more traditional long shirt without collars, something a bit closer to the proper timeframe.
Oddly enough at our Burns dinners, we have an older chap that wears white pirate shirt, black velvet swordsman's vest, and those dreaded ghillies with his Burns check plaid, and he looks rather well put together with the whole monochrome thing going well for him.
However, I've also seen guys try to wear the pirate shirt with a argyle jacket and fly plaid. Looks like a soup sandwich.

Hey, I know how to make those...
Beware the Kilt! Oh yes, it starts all soft and warm and nice but soon you'll feel a scratch or two. That's the Kilt; it's injecting tartan into your veins.
The need to possess another Kilt starts as a wee thought and builds until you can't think straight. So you buy another Kilt. And the process begins anew.

Joshua I remember well your compliments on my first kilted picture, Always a bit daunting to see a picture of yourself wearing a kilt for the first time and you were very kind in your response.
With regards to the Ghillie with an Argyll and a fly plaid that you mention above, i hope that I have learned enough from respected members on herre not to make such a faux pas.
It is interesting to note and as some have already mentioned the Jacobite/Ghillie/Pirate shirt is generally favourably received by the opposite sex whether worn with a Kilt or Jeans. It must invoke thoughts of a more romantic era when men were men and sheep were scared.

If they had buttons, instead of that damn stupid lace-up affair...

I am going to add my vote to the "like" column. I have one and wear it with the kilt from time to time. But you have to remember, I am also one of the ones that like the looks of white hose too.

I got one as a "bonus" with my first kilt. Wore it once, then my wife expropriate it for herself. Never saw the need to replace it. Wear them if you like

Stop putting words in my mouth!
I love shirts with loose sleeves and open collar. ... But I don't like ghillie shirts. The wide collar and the lace neck are all wrong. Lose those and I'm in, especially if the buttons go right down.
