new jacket...opinions?

First,as to Bugbear's suggestion *** but you need an ax insted of a dirk.
Second, I like the cut and the collar,I think it would work as a formal jacket,my choice would be a colored velvet or wool,but that may be a bit "over the top."

I don't necessarily think the bottom needs rounding (but I like Teutonic tailoring styles ) but I do agree that there is a disconnect between the black sating facing and the brown corduroy. It could just be the photographs but it
does appear to make a pretty severe contrast between a relatively formal fabric and the rather casual jacket body.

The fit looks good though.

Its all good Kyle. One question though...Would it have been better in dark blue with red piping? Just kidding mate...you know an old submarine sailor couldn't wear anything like marine style dress tunic. I'm liking the look. It will be my look for the foreseeable future.

4. Seems odd the folks that thought it looked German...its definitely Mandarin/Nehru [to my eye]

To my eye what makes it look more German than Asian are the brown material, and the facings in a contrasting colour. Do a Google search for "trachten jacket" and you'll see what I mean, but here is an image and a link of what your jacket makes me think of:

It's hard to explain why a Mandarin/Nehru is different... either way, your jacket is really snazzy and unique. It isn't a trachten jacket, maybe just resembles one

I noticed that, and I think your beard makes a lovely non-traditional tie.

After the pleasure of your company at the Tilted Kilt, I know you eschew the strict constraints of traditional wear. This baby fits that bill wonderfully. I would choose different fabrics for my own, but a big fan of the cut. Thrilled to hear that you're happy with it!

Colin, I see what you mean...I may chose different fabrics for the next one but I am pleased with the jacket. I am sure I will enjoy wearing it very much. To 95% of the population they won't know this from an argyle or nehru or a foul weather jacket...lol. Lit, thanks. Looking forward to my next visit to the "Mile High" and throwing back a few drams.

I like the style of the jacket quite well.... and cordueroy works just fine, too...to my eyes. I also am not sure about the satin facings combined with the cordueroy, as other have said. "Germanic"? I don't see it, but hey, no biggie.

This would probably look fantastic with a "contemporary" kilt like a Freedom kilt, R-Kilt, an X-Kilt that you made, or a UK.
