What do the top women throwers in the USA wear?

Adriane Blewitt wears an actual traditional kilt, at kilt-length. I don't know who made it, but I guarantee you that everybody takes Adriane seriously as an athlete.

Kate Burton actually wears a USA Kilts casual model, as made by Rocky from USA Kilts, here on X Marks.

Kristy Scott, currently ranked #3 in the world, wears a sportkilt.

Now, tell me ANYBODY that wouldn't take this woman seriously...

Heather MacDonald likes kilts a little bit shorter.

Heather, currently ranked #7 in North America, i believe, also wears tights when it's cold.

Heather and one of those awesome Icelandic women....note the difference in kilt length.

Melissa Geniasauki is notorious for wearing outrageously short kilts.

    http://presstelegram.mycapture.com/m...tegoryID=28717

That one is a custom job, I've seen it. It's actually half lace. Seriously...half tartan, half lace. It completely scandalized the old fogies at the local Caledonian Club last year. Melissa is no longer throwing, she's seriously hurt her back, which is a trajedy.

Our local Amazon, and CHAC thrower and good friend to many in the Nor Cal Rabble, Bethany Owen, wears a black-and-flame contemporary kilt that I made for her.

Mindy Pockoski, who until she semi-retired 2 years ago to start her family, owned I think 4 world records in the Games.... she's a lovely, lovely woman, and the nicest person you could imagine.

Mindy, completely mortified while Mike expresses his inner artistic acrobat dancer on the field.... LOL.Anyway, you can see how short, or not, her kilt is in that picture.

Mindy in 2009, after breaking the world record in weight over bar...

Setting the world record in LWFD...

and finally, future World Champ in the making.... GGGP shows it all off!

that kilt hits her about mid-thigh when she's behaving herself..

There you go. That should give you some idea.

BTW, socks.....Adriane sometimes wears kilt hose, and sometimes doesn't.

Here's Kelly Niklason, the womens Highland Games Fashion Plate. She's an Aveda makeup artist, for her day job. I'm having dinner with her and Adriane on Thursday! wooohooo!

Kate Burton, showing you EXACTLY how to release a hammer...

Emmy-Ems....Emily Burchett, the damsel in a truly powerhouse throwing family. Her dad and her brothers all throw, and Emmy is one of the top ten throwers in the country. Emmy like wild socks!

    Kristy Scott, again...

Beth Burton...only been throwing for one full season, but then she's the T&F throwing coach at Cal State Chico....throwing in her self-made breast cancer awareness kilt.

And Heather MacDonald again, ripping the snot out of the weight over bar.

I think you get the point.

The length of your kilt, at least here in the USA, is kind of irrelevant.

BTW, I know every single one of the women in these pictures, personally except for Emily Burchett, and every one of them is a lovely, beautiful, attractive, very female and generally wonderful person.

Bahaha, that's what I love about you, Alan - you not only MAKE a point, you pleat it to sett, stitch the bugger down and tack it in place for delivery!

Point taken. Believe me. Over and out!

    Which length kilt you ask?
Well as you can see from the gallery of lasses legs, the only important thing to remember is to wear something under it.

I learned something else from this thread, wearing the give-away tee shirt is totally optional. I felt kind of bad when I didn't wear the tees (one I didn't get, the first one I didn't know you're supposed to). I like to cut the tees up into stylish girl-y wear before I wear it. It's hard to do that on the field.

It's good form to wear the giveaway t-shirt, cut up or not. It's often plastered with advertising, which supports the Games, so it's good to support the crew. However, if you want to "alter" it to something more "aesthetically pleasing" I think you can go right ahead!

Every Highlands athlete worthy of the title should carry a pair of scissors/shears in their kit bag specifically for the purpose of removing the sleeves and collars of games T-shirts.
