Obviously a great man as history tells us, but is Columba really the Patron Saint of Scotland? It seems that Saint Andrew might have a stronger claim for that position.

I wondered that myself. But the copy just says "Patron saint of Scotland"....not THE patron saint....so maybe they mean A patron saint.

But hey, St. Andrew never set foot in Scotland. St. Columba worked hard in Scotland. I'm not even Christian so no real clue. Maybe there's a better expert among the rabble???

St. Andrew is the official patron saint of Scotland. But there are many, many other patrons of Scotland, including St. Columba, St. Ninian, St. Margaret (who was actually Queen of Scotland), and other saints who are for one reason or another affiliated with that country. The great missionary St. Columba was for quite some time regarded as Scotland's primary patron saint, but as St. Andrews (the place) gained in religious prominence in Scotland, St. Andrew (the person) also gained in prominence and so was later adopted as Scotland's official patron.
