    Jock goes to Normandy.

The reason for going? A wedding.

The main players, the happy couple and the respective close family.

Mr and Mrs Jock. A rare picture of Jock wearing the kilt outwith Scotland.

The beautiful bride having a brief chat with us between the 4th and 5th course at the sumptuous reception.

The next day the festivities continued, but in a less formal way. Some of the family.

In the end we all had to make our way home----except for us, who had the place to ourselves for the night.

    More to come.

As we had most of the day to spare before catching the ferry we went to visit some of the sights along the Normandy D Day beaches.

Pointe du Hoc. Where some 250 gallant American Rangers scaled the cliffs and stormed the gun positions. They held the position for three days before being relieved. Over an area of perhaps 100 acres there are huge and overlapping bomb craters and shell holes.

Jock stood on top of a concrete gun position with the Ranger monument standing proud behind me. What a sight there must have been out at sea on the morning of June 6th 1944.

Jock stood in front of another position that had taken a direct hit. Not much damage!

On to Arromanches where an artificial harbour(code name Mulberry) was built and in action within 3 days of the opperation starting on June 6th. A FANTASTIC idea and without it the invason could well have failed.
The huge concrete barges that were sunk in position are still there although time and the weather have moved them about a bit.

Jock in front of a British 25 pounder field gun. A British 5.5 inch howitzer behind and in the sea on the horizon the remains of the "mulberry harbour".

    Phew! The End.

Great pictures Jock. I hope to get to Normandy one of these days. This year it will be England, Scotland and Wales.

Chas and Father Bill I know you posted comments yesterday, before the thread disappeared into the ether and I am sorry about that, but if you would like to post here again, I can almost promise that they will not go AWOL again.

Very impressive all round, Jock. Every picture tells a whole story. 'Très chic', I think.
A lovely red backdrop for you and Mrs Jock - your motor? Very smart waistcoat of the gentleman in the middle in the family group.
It might be 67 years since the war finished, but as clearly seen, it is still a big part of so many lives.

    Regards

    Chas

My thoughts originally posted were that the brides were lovely; yours, and the other one!

Wow. So much there. First, you had a great location and people and a beautiful automobile! Second you survived wearing the kilt outside of Scotland again. You see, it really can be done. Third, those photos of the battlefield evoke such an array of feelings. Wow. Wow. Thank you.
