    Right to wear a kilt

A friend of mine would like to wear a kilt, but doesn't feel he has enough scottish blood to entitle him to wear it.

Yes, I've gone through all the arguments, including the health and comfort angle, but how would you answer this heritage issue?
What would you say to him, your thoughts are appreciated.

    Great beasties, Graham!
Tell the laddie to lie if that's what it takes to get him into a Kilt!
If he wants to be kilted I'd say that's as much Scottish blood in him as he needs !

    Good Luck! - Dakotan

If a Mexican, a Chinese, a Hungarian and an English can share laughs, drinks and food while in kilts, any one can wear kilt!!!

All you need is your desire and a kilt. The Scotts may have invented them, but anyone can do it. If you can wear jeans without being a cowboy, you can wear a kilt without being a Scott.

By wearing a tartan kilt, a district tartan if he's uncomfortable with a family tartan, he is honoring the vast celtic contribution to art and culture and history. His "entitlement" if he feels he needs such a thing, is his right as a male to a personal expression of manhood based on that scottish badge of masculinity, the kilt. As a Canadian, should I feel I have no "entitlement" to wear an akubra?

At 10:30 pm, there wasn't a Scot in a kilt at our last Kilts Night! There was, as bcmtnbka said, a Mexican, a Chinese, a Hungarian and an Englishman.
By closing time, there was only myself and Vic, a Mexican, in kilts. Okay, there was one Scottish lass, but I'm talking about men in kilts.
I will add that if Andrew and Ian weren't at sea with the Coast Guard, we would have had two Scots with us until the end.

Here are my two favorite arguments... Chicks dig kilted guys. Real men wera kilts.

Good non-Scotch/Irish reason why it's okay to wear a kilt. Samuel L. Jackson. He's about as far from Scottish as it gets.
