Kilt project

My first kilt is coming along well so far. I have the pleating all finished and it looks pretty good. Next time I think I'll make narrower pleats though. I'll start on the waistband tomorrow then the straps and buckles. Thanks to everyone that made suggestions and comments, it all made it much easier and the results show it. All you kiltmakers don't have to worry about me competeing with you. I don't think I'd care to try it for a living

bear, first thing I did was make a carboard pleating template so they came out even. It sure saved alot of headaches

I did edge stitch the pleats on both sides given how denim isn't too great for holding a sharp crease.
Jimmy, no problem for me to avoid trying it as a profession. Around here it's way too much work for the potential return <G>

its a pain, but nothing feels better than saying "I made it myself" when someone ask you where you bought your kilt, i've made about 10 so far with various plaids, tartans, solids and other colors, and looking at my first one makes me sick, but the last one (the camo in my avatar) makes it worth while, lol its worth the hassle and head ache keep up the good work

I just finished my 15th camo kilt last night. I have gotten the camo kilts down (green, tan blue, gunmetal...) but I'm working on trying my hand at a 'classic' kilt but I'm still having some issues. It is fun to see the progression from the first kilt to the current which to me is almost perfect. If this continues I'll have more kilts than days in a month!

It really isn't beyond basic sewing techniques to make a kilt. It is nitpicky work but not terribly complicated. If you ever want to do it just take a basic sewing class.
