So... what are you reading?

Visiting my daughter’s house last week I was looking at the titles on her bookshelf, looking for something I might like to read, and came across seven novels by Jeff Lindsay about a character named Dexter. My wife has seen the TV series based on the novels, but it is new to me. The first is Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I have just finished the second in the series, Dearly Devoted Dexter, and am ploughing through the third, Dexter in the Dark.
Dexter is a serial killer with a difference: he only kills bad guys, mostly other serial killers.

I have also been looking at Thackeray’s Vanity Fair and Charles Lamb’s Essays by Elia. Not sure whether I will ever read Lamb’s sister’s best-known work, Frankenstein, however. As a schoolboy I had a copy of their collaborative work, Lamb’s Tales from Shakespeare, which is still on my shelves.

I have been unable to read for pleasure since my wife was diagnosed (June 6th) with cancer in her tonsils. However, the amount of literature on surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, dietary needs and support group forums is vast. Her doctor, radiologist and nutritionist are wishing they had more time to treat her than answering my questions.
There is some debate between them and us on the use of "old world" methods used instead of the modern medicines or techniques. The best example being Cod Liver Oil, for constipation plus radiation burns on skin.

I have been a life long fan of Wilbur Smith and just picked up his latest paperback Desert God. I have to admit that even as long in the tooth as I have become, I like to sit on a cold wintery night with a glass or two of Single Malt and a good Adventure book of far off places and times.

A Big pile of books on the Great Western Railway, sadly the father of one of the Members of the Model Railway Club I belong to has died and his huge collection of Books was donated to the MRC All the Books were in Immaculate condition, and collected in that Gentleman's lifetime. Several books were collectors Items and will be ebay'd with a minimum price (unless a club member wishes to pay that price). The rest were up for grabs in return for a donation, those left at the end will go on the clubs stand at our annual show. I had so many books the donation came to 3 figures! Some of these books are doubles, but in much better condition than my previous copies which will go back through the clubs stand once they are sorted.
