The Norman achievement by Richard F Cassady. R.F.Cassady was a world war 2 fighter pilot who post war took a degree in art history, and it shows. With long descriptions of Norman artistic remains throughout Europe mostly in churches but sometime castles.
Published in 1986 when the author was 67 he obviously had spent a considerable time travelling around Europe researching the book unfortunately at times this means he wanders off subject into almost a tour guide including the meals he had.
This doesn't mean it's a bad book, it's very readable in its year by year format, even though it means jumping between England, France, Italy and the middle east.
So I do recommend this book.
I'll probably try to get the only other book published in his name, "the emperor and the saint" in 2011 when he was 92!!

I am re-reading John le Carre's 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' because it's been a few years since I last did, and I love the writing, plot and characterisation.

    Moby Dick.

    Again....

Second printing, first printing was relegated to look but don't touch status years ago.

After 40 years it's still my favorite book, I could almost recite it verbatim, been reading it to my young son after dinner the past few nights.

    Cool What am I reading

    the Art of Kiltmaking.
My husband is ready Rob Roy. I bought it for him in Scotland when I toured Sir Walter Scotts home.
It puts him to sleep at night. Its a tough read when you read the original.
