    Kilt Jackets and ties

I am going to church Sunday and I am wondering about jackets. This will be a regular Sunday service. I have two jackets, one being a Prince Charlie which is not appropriate for church. My other jacket is a black argyl. My neck tie is also black. Would this be too formal looking for church? Would it be better to wear the black jacket with a different color tie, such as red since there is a predominant red stripe in the MacLeod of Harris tartan, or another color that compliments the colors in the tartan? After I lose weight I will be ordering a charcoal or lovat green argyl jacket.

David, you've answered your own question. I have a black argyle jacket as well and have worn a number of dress shirts with it. Keep them plain and match the colour with that of the kilt. You'll be fine with a white shirt and a plain red tie, no problem.

I quite agree with Al. on this one (as on most things, actually!!). A plain coloured tie, complimenting one of the kilt's predominant colours, is best.

Black neckties are for funerals (bowties being the exception); grey silk ones are for weddings and tartan ones are for wear with plain kilts or, Heaven forbid, trousers - never, NEVER with tartan kilts!

As long as the colors you select don't clash everything should be fine. My personal preference however, is to wear only white shirts with my Argyll jacket.

Man, I wear flip flops and cargo pants to church! (A kilt might be a little too crazy unless there is a Kirkin)

I go to one of those contemporary churchs that play praise music instead of Hymns (I also play bass in the praise band).

I know this doesnt help your cause but I figured I would chime in!

I guess going w/o a tie is out of the question? A button down white shirt with no tie looks good with the Argyll for semi-casual but I am not sure if a tie is a must where you will be...
