What a Forest Master pocketknife looks like new, and something about who made it.

And what appears to be your exact model, with the reamer opened.

Yours has seen a lot of sharpening and the edge of its knife blade has gotten very bellied -- sharpening it on bench stones would have treated it better -- as well as making it possible at all to sharpen with a bench stone!

They're right -- either hang it by a lanyard or let it live in your sporran. Maybe ring it to your keys. From the prices I saw googling on it, you've a user, not a collector.

First off, thank you for moving my thread to its appropriate subforum.

Secondly, UG, I found this knife in a drawer in some antique furnature in my home. I know nothing about them but I get the impression that they are a well-known knife.

I think the rabble's advice is sound. A sporran knife it shall be, although I almost never carry a knife.

I really hope you're not wearing decent compression hose and tucking your sgian dubh into them. That would actually destroy the differential compression that a compression sock provides and can do long term damage to your varicose veins.

(Sorry, the vascular surgeon in me just came out on that one).

I wear a few things in my hose as I tend to like to have something that's as usefull as a sgian, but slightly more multitaskable.

Also often tuck in one of these http://www.gerbergear.com/Tactical/T...lack_31-001134

I'm all for the sleek look of a traditional sgian, but I am also a utilitarian at heart and if I can't find at least 4 or more uses for something I likely won't carry it. Multitools may now look as pretty but there are some very sleek models on the market that fit nicely in the hose and at thte very least are great conversation starters.

I'm still tempted to make a fixed-blade sheath for this folder, and carry it as a sgian. The horn scale on the other side is pale, smooth and flatter, almost, as if...

That Guardian looks slick! I noticed a comment on the sheath not being durable. What's your experience been?

I normally would not even consider using a folder for the purpose, but I have to say that this would look good sticking out of the top of a stocking!

Geoff, the original hard sheath is nice but it's a total no go for using in hose. I made a leather one that I've used almost daily for over a year now.
