    question for Al Northumberland

    Hi Al,
sorry for being slow and dim, but are you the Al that was interested in a kilt night in Derbyshire.
If so I'll be able to let you know more after Sunday next, as I have one or two ideas about venue etc. If none of them work it'll be a knees up (ooh matron) round any old town/pubs whatever.
I've put this in a post as any others are welcome and Derbys fairly central to the whole country.
Having said that I'd be happy to travel to anywhere subject to cost (I'm a poor nurse remember ) and work schedules (nurses are overworked ) and what the plans for the evening are, (nurses really party hard ) other than that we should be able to sort something.
    Cheers Rhino

    Hi Rhino

Having just got in from an early shift, I'm feeling pretty dim and slow myself. I don't recall mentioning a kilt night in derby, though not entirely against the idea!! The question would be when as my diary is chocker at the moment.

As for partying, being a 999er myself, I've been to some of those parties. Boy do they swing!!!!

    Cheers Rhino.

Meant to say as regards the public services, police, fire, ambulance, nurses and the like, I think because we see the worst the world has to offer we make the most of enjoying ourselves. And did you really mean swing???

    swings and roundabouts

Searching the dim and distant recesses of my aging brain I admit I've been to some of those parties, mostly at various nurse hostels. I see it as compensation for awful wages, that I'm in a profession that has 85% women and 90% of the remaining 15% are gay.
As a matter of interest one of my converts has become a casualty of the kilts killer effect on the ladies. He was out on Saturday in a Amerikilt and didn't get in till 3.30am everywhere shuts at 2am . So his wife isn't too happy about the attention he's getting, needless to say he's happy as Larry.

Every convert counts....and if they have to make sacrifices by annoying the missus, so be it! We can't help it if chicks love guys in kilts!

I'm surprised you think that 90% of male nurses are gay. I thought the ratio would be a lot more even. When I joined the job, there were 3 ex - male nurses on my intake (of 33) and none of them were gay. Quite the opposite. Very canny lads as well.

There was a bit of poetic license on my part, but I can remember working at one hospital where I was the only straight, male or female, on 4 wards.
You soon become canny in these sorts of jobs or the job itself weeds you out.
I joined the police initially and left just before Maggie gave the first big pay rise (curses). Partly due to the internal politics and back biting, but in main after witnessing the Met in the miners strike. This is the wrong place to go into it now, but I'm from a mining family, my great grandad and grandad were killed in the pit.
Anyway never regreted it, still helping people and without my social conscience biting me.
    Cheers Rhino
