I will likely go there this weekend, but not until Saturday. And since it's a 4 hour drive for me to get there, I wouldn't arrive until around noon.

I'll be there, but with my mum, so no beer tent for me. Have fun!

Come on out to Saline! A beautiful park with one of the best festivals around. Make sure you stop and say hello to the Heavy Athletes. We've got some of the best competing from the midwest.

Shall we try to meet to say "Hey" somewhere and somewhen? If the beer tent isn't an option for everyone I'm good with picking an event or we can just pass each other like ships in the night. I'm up for posting a photo so you can either avoid me or not ;-)
I look very much like my avatar. My daughter gave it to me a year ago or so.

I'm easy to find by my tartan, of course... I'll be dancing in the Highland competition and singing in the Irish, but the rest of the day after that is mine.

I'm only 30 minutes away. I might just go after work Friday evening.

Will there be other dancers wearing the same tartan? Sounds like you'll be in an individual competition and not a group thing. Embarrassed to admit I don't know much about Highland dancing.

Nope. I think there are only a few other people in the country who wear this tartan; it's not one of the popular ones. I know of someone online who wears it, and actually did see another dancer wearing it at a competition not long ago, but, um, you'll know the difference even if she's there, as she looked to be about ten or twelve. I look young, but not THAT young.
Each dancer chooses her/his own tartan. I'm sure there are professional dance groups who all match, but... they can afford to buy a second kilt, no doubt. Such groups are not that widespread, though-- Highland dance hasn't taken off like Irish did with Riverdance and all. Some dancers wear their family tartan... most, I think, just pick what they like; I know of some with Scottish last names who are wearing different tartans (though they may come by it honestly another way). I think dancing is another of those things where you get a bit of a pass for wearing a tartan that isn't "yours," especially since it's popular to buy outfits secondhand, which means a beggar can't always be a chooser (esp. when an adult, and secondhand outfits are few and far between).
