Higgins Armory, Central Mass for Celtic armor program

On Saturday july 27 Higgins Armory in Worcester Mass has a Celtic program and I thought it might be a good get together
for folks in the area. For those who don't know about the museum it is a real gem. It has armor and weaponry throughout the ages and I think it is the largest collection in the country. Check it out @ www.higgins.org. There also is a nice Irish bar/restaurant close by for drinks and food after. I wouldn't pass this up since the museum will be closing at year's end and some armor will be displayed at another museum in Worcester.

That could be nice. I have a pretty full schedule. What might be the dates considered?

Not sure I'd be able to make it to this event, but I did want to pop in and say that if you're anywhere within a reasonable day trip of Worcester, the Higgins Armory is well worth seeing at least once before it closes at the end of the year.

From what I understand much of the collection will eventually be displayed at the Worcester Art Museum, who will remodel some of their space to receive it. It's a shame that they weren't able to maintain enough of an endowment to maintain the building (built when heating costs were so, so much cheaper than now) but if the building has to go, it's a win/win/win for the Armory, the Art Museum, and the city that the collection stays in the city and remains viewable by the public.

The curious original 1920's glass-and-steel structure and its great hall is worth seeing if you can, though. While you're there, take a spin up the hill and look at the grand old Odd Fellows Home, whose demolition is imminent.

I've been looking for a good excuse to make the drive down to Worcester and see the Higgins Armory while it's still there. This sounds like it!

I see the program is a short one (2:00 to 2:30 pm) but I'd like to see the rest of their exhibits and perhaps enjoy a pint with some XMarks folks afterwards.
