    Aberlour 12, Balvenie Doublewood 12, Dalwhinnie 15, Dalmore 12, Cragganmore 12 and MacAllan 12.

I am not the least bit ashamed of preferring sherry bombs over Islay turpentines.
Unless K&L can't ship to your state, A'Bunadh is available off the net. Check out ...

I agree with your assessment of sherry finished malts vs. what I call Islay "rubber tire" malts. Though Bowmore 18 is so smooth, I drink it despite the unpleasant finish.

My last dram was an Old Pulteney 12 - wonderful finish.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Mortlach 16 is my go-to currently, but I'm trying to make it last. I love Lagavulin, but can't afford it, and I'll echo the above comments about Isle of Jura Superstition. Great, smooth stuff.

I've never tried the Superstition, but now I will. I do like the Prophecy and have a bottle in my stable.

    Carriage House Apple Brandy
It's made about 30 miles from my domicile, and so far I'm learning to enjoy it. I opened it with a wee splash of water, which has brightened the flavors.

Speyburn 12 but found Monkey Shoulder which is a three cask blend that has a very good and mellow flavor.

Lagavulin is my all time favourite, but right now it's a cup of PG Tips with my bacon sarnie!

I guess I'm in the minority here but I actually prefer the "rubber tire" Islay malts. I'm especially a fan of Laphroaig Quarter Cask.

Mike: I'm not sure you're in the minority here, or in any random group for that matter. Lots of folks drink Islay malts and love 'em.

I just sense the peat as " burnt rubber tire" in both smell and taste. My wife says that they smell/taste to her like the odor of the air being let out of a bicycle tire. Some of my friends feel the same way, but I also have lots of friends who tell me that they do not get that sensation at all when they drink peaty malts.

The beauty of scotch is like that of art - in the perception of the imbiber.
