I attended a nice Balvenie tasting in Portland last night. While I'm partial to the smoky, peaty Islay scotches I enjoyed the 17 year Doublewood and the 21 year Portwood was excellent!

A very young Single Malt whiskey (5year old) their inaugural bottling this year from a new distillery here on Vancouver Island, Shelter Point Distillery .....It has a great potential and is already one of my favourite drams as we come into the cooler days of fall

October 25th is the anniversary of my father's passing; so, I had a few drops left of my Talisker 18 in a flask that I had with me on a business trip to Detroit. I made a toast to my father and named my forefathers.

And here, is where I must say I part with the rabble. I have yet to find a Scots whisky to my liking, so tonight I'll be working on a little American rotten corn, as opposed to Scottish rotten barley. My wife is a police officer, and it just so happens, that on our 8th anniversary today, she'll be feeding me Maker's Mark in an attempt to teach police recruits the finer points of Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.

I use to be a bit of a Whiskey snob and always put American Whiskey at the bottom of my lists. At a whiskey tasting I was at I had two Kentucky Straight bourbons and realised that there is as huge a difference in bourbons as there is in Scotch whiskys
Knobb Creek 9 yr old is as smooth a whiskey as I have ever drank at 50% abv Makers Mark and Buffalo Trace are also very nice.......I'm still partial to Islay whiskys but I'm learning to keep a more open mind

Okay, so the Talisker 18 is gone now. A few minutes ago, I opened a brand new bottle of Laphroaig 18, and my first sip of my first dram is delicious! No water, no ice, no granite stones.

I had a taste of a Laphroaig Port cask finished whisky at Heathrow last month and it was superb.......the clerk said it isn't for general public yet they are doing taste test samples at airport duty Free shops......I've never heard of that before but I will look out for it, that's for sure
