I don't usually drink Lowland Whisky, but when I do, it is Auchentoshan.

I like Glenmorangie Original, but I'm not a fan of the wine barrel finishes.

Rum casks, on the other hand...

Balvenie Caribbean Cask is a favorite in our house. My sweetie, @carolinanan117 is quite fond of it.

I've enjoyed that Balvenie Doublewood before, and even gifted a couple to cherished friends after I found it at the Class VI on a steep reduction.

    Good stuff!

I receive a bottle from the Choir every Christmas. Fairly usual, but always enjoyable, as well as being thoughtful of them.
This year, I was presented Caol Isla Natural Cask Strength. A 61.6% vessel of pure enjoyment. Buy its appearance and the inability to easily find it online it came from Scotland (not the usual NAmerican labelling).
I'll return to this post with a photo of it at some point soon.

A friend recently visited Scotland and returned with a sample (~ 1 oz.) of Singleton of Glen Ord 12, 15, & 18. The 12 is very good. She said that the Singletons were reserved for distribution in Asia & Europe and my Googling efforts appear to confirm that.

The Glen Ord distillery was founded by Thomas Mackenzie on the Black Isle in 1838 and is the only remaining single malt scotch whisky distillery on the Black Isle. It is now part of the Diageo empire (big surprise there) and has been undergoing modernization and expansion this century.

If the distillery has a web site, I cant find it... which I find odd.

Last evening was a Highland Park 10; while I really enjoy the stronger peats from Islay, I find the Highland Park more subtle and allows some of the other flavours to take centre stage.

I also just saw my liquor store has a Laphroaig on sale so I may have to add one of those to my collection!

    Celebrating

Last evening, Pretty Wife and I kicked off our "birthday week" with NY strip steak, Brussels sprouts au gratin, leftover challah slices, and a tumbler of Glenmorangie's standard 10-y.o. on the rocks.

Tonight being my actual birthday, a tot of Ardbeg Uiegedail is in the cards.

This evening a Glenmorganie Lasanta with wonderful butterscotch elements. Never noticed these before but a couple of drops of water brought them out.

Ah tonight a departure from single malt. The compass box Flaming Heart with a subtle sherry finish and sublime peat smoke. Wonderful stuff
