Sadly, my quaich is currently dry. I need to remedy that situation. I'm no connoisseur, but my favorite scotch is Glenlivet. That said, I usually buy Famous Grouse which is a very good blended scotch.
Can anyone recommend a good affordable brandy available here in the US?

Isle of Jura 10 is delicious and is at a reasonable price. By coincidence, I had a dram of it on Saturday evening.

Something completely different
I just got stationed in Okinawa, Japan. I tried a Hibiki 17 year old after dinner. While not the best I have ever had, it was quite nice.

Bunnahabhain 12 last night after supper. The cork pulled in two upon opening so now it occupies all my flasks.

Some of my previously opened bottles that I have left on the shelf for too long have done this because the cork has dried out. Thankfully, my wife brought a good strainer to the marriage while I brought a good decanter.

I have never had scotch. But after reading through this whole thread- i now have a want-to-try list!
My wife just gave me a flask for my sporran and i must find something to occupy the empty space within!
I see blurry evenings ahead!

Check out our scotch ratings at:

one of the book club members son wanted to buy his dad a scotch so I pointed him to the list and told him anything around 3.5 is going to be good and find something he could afford.

If you stay at the drinking of whisky you will find that whiskies are very much like fine wines. They really are much varied and very different from each other even if produced at the same distillery and especially from the various areas and countries they are produced. I have always liked Port Cask finished whiskies, of which Quinta Ruben is one.. I am also very partial to Islay whiskies, as well, smokey and peaty, but that came later in my choosing of whiskies. I joined a small whisky tasting group and learned how to TASTE whisky not just DRINK it. There are many books that can help you but remember there are almost as many opinions as types and expressions of whisky. ..... In the end there is only one opinion that really matters and that is your own. ......Sláinté Mhor
