A couple of drams of Cairnleigh while watching the Sally Hawkins version of Jane Austen's Persuasion. Spoiler alert:
She gets her man.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I very rarely drink blended Scotch anymore, but I've always liked 100 Pipers (it's rather difficult to find in my part of the world) even before I discovered and/or could afford The Balvenie Double Wood, which is what it (now) reminds me of. As with cigars, the less expensive stuff starts tasting pretty darn good when it's all your sporran will allow.
Autumn weather for us is right around the corner--a bit of it is forecast over the next week, just in time for the next St. Andrew's Society Chicago Scots Pub Crawl in Elmhurst, IL on 13 September--which is my cue to switch from Vodka to Scotch (and from Skin Bracer To Old Spice, etc.), so I have at the ready a bottle of Finlaggan Old Reserve, my favorite "Mystery Malt." Cheers!

Picked up a bottle of Macallan 12 year sherry oak last night. Would one use the term "yummy" to describe a scotch? Why yes, I believe one would.
Cheers!

Wayhay! After 28 years a (possibly) grateful government has pensioned me off! (no time for loafing though - new challenges, new horizons and all that!). In celebration last night I enjoyed a tot or three from the "Nelson's Decanter" of Pusser's Rum given to me by my old chums. Although a scotch man, I can highly recommend this historic navy rum, THE rum of the Royal Navy. Drink it neat (or in a dark rum mojito at a push):

Pearce Lyons' Lyons Reserve single malt (from the folks who do Town Branch bourbon in Lexington). Not a bad dram, especially considering it doesn't cost much more than Famous Grouse.

Aberlour 12 after a meal of baked pork tenderloin, baked whole onion and roasted corn.
Make it two.

Although usually Aberlour and other Speyside scotches fill my cup, this month is Bourbon Heritage Awareness Month by act of Congress. I'm doing my part, mainly with Weller, Eagle Rare, and Buffalo Trace. It's still warm enough to warrant juleps/bourbon smashes here, so those are being sipped when the missus is in a drinking mood. Otherwise it's neat or with a single rock.
