As with Peter / figheadair, I've 3 good daughters. I was presented with, & graciously accepted my bottle of Glenfiddich. Last pm, during the chaos of Christmas, I sloped off to enjoy a healthy dram. During their pre-holiday shopping plans, I overheard the brood discussing Lagavulin for me. I told them, "Nope".

Being a fan of Jameson (and other Irish whiskeys), I was excited to see their Caskmates series in 200 mL bottles. So I picked up a three pack with the IPA and Stout edition Caskmates and a bottle of the original. Enjoying the Stout edition one tonight (with a TARDIS-shaped ice cube).

I don't usually drink Irish Whiskey, but when I do, it is Bushmills.

Recently started drinking scotch - started with the Glen's but haven't quite acquired a taste for those.

However, a friend introduced me to a Bowmore 12 and I love it. My wonderful wife had a Bowmore 12 gift box under the tree and it's been well enjoyed since Christmas.

Gifted with a drop of joy

Recently (when not helping draw down our seasonal overstock of handmade eggnog), I've been enjoying a bit of Auchentoshen. It's not "of the finest" in my view, but perfectly pleasant. On special occasions, I might dip into my remaining jug of 10 y.o. Ardbeg, or even a drop of Uigedail if circumstances demand.

For Christmas, courtesy of Pretty Wife's gracious and classy stepfather Gary, a bottle of Ardbeg Corryvreckan showed up in my stocking. It hits a perfect "5" rating on the Whisky Exchange, meaning that it rates well beyond my "occasional toaster" budget. Must have been a good idea to build him that gate last summer!

This evening, we begin our annual Jahrzeit memorial season. No one knows how long it will be until Gary joins the line of candles in our window. Despite the recent hot rod upgrade to his pacemaker, Gary's heart is a hand grenade in his chest. That reality has shadowed him for decades. We enjoy our time with him the way we enjoy it with all whom we care about, with an edge to our joy derived from the certain knowledge that tomorrow is not promised to any of us.

Household tradition dictates that our first candle be lit in memory of a sweet Great Dane named Tucker, the best dog I've ever met or loved and one who was too tender of heart and fragile of body to live long in this hard world. Tonight, I'll raise a glass to his picture, to the mound out back where a maple tree grows, and to his beloved memory.

And it will be the good stuff.

Ah, Taffy Jack, Corryvreckan is my second love . Tonight my first love and I are enjoying Bunnahabhain Eirigh na Greine (Morning Sky). Roasted nuts, sea salt and smoke.

A tilt of our glasses to Tucker, and a second tilt to Gary.

    I like Auchentoshan!

I am currently finishing up a bottle of Glenmorangie and have just opened a bottle of Auchentoshan Three Wood. I fell in love with it during a whisky tasting at last years Burns Night. I very much found I do not like peat. That may be the difference.

I'm fond of the Glenmorangies, but my favorite is Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 year. My sister gave me a bottle of Balvenie Doublewood 12 year (aged in whisky oak and finished in sherry oak) that I'll be opening soon!
