Finally Got one ! MOD Brass Cantle sporran

God has blessed me and allowed my wonderful wife to buy this for me.
I have Finally Got one ! I have been shadowing EBAY and watching for
some time now . I was at the North Alabama Games this year and met a
very a generous man willing to sell me a MOD Cantle sporran .
so here is my MOD Brass Cantle sporran . I am going to finish the bag
and hopefully make many more bags for it .
But Finally I get to be a part of the MOD Cantle club . which I have wanted to join for some time .

** does any one know which style cantle this one is ? just so I will know
what to call it **

Welcome to the club! There's a secret handshake too, but you'll have to be shown that in person by another member.

As for which style cantle it is, Downunder Kilt posted a description of the variations a while back. Based on his descriptions, yours appears to be either a MkII or MkIV. Comparing it to other photos I've seen, I'm going to guess yours is a MkIV, based on the size of the dimples. If I'm wrong, someone will correct me, I'm sure.

I assume when you say "bottom" and "top", you mean the one laying on top of the other one, not actual up/down in the photo, right?

Thomas H, I would say that you have a MKll there. An additional clue is the two rivets squashed between the dimples at the top of the cantle face ( the rivets help hold part of the locking mechanism on) On yours they are very close to the dimples, but on the MKlV of MacRobert's Reply you will see that there is some space between the dimples and rivets. Your original bag may also give you a clue as to when the sporran was used. There is usually black MoD markings on the inside of the bag which includes the year.

I think your replacement bag is fantastic, well done, and await to see more of your creations for this cantle.
