What level of formality would this velvet dinner jacket be?

    Good day,
I'm thinking of having this jacket made to measure:

Would this work for black tie?
It is available in 19 different colors of velvet. Ignore the length I can specify the measurements.

I would think it would be great for black-tie.

If you are going to do this, have a three button waistcoat made at the same time.

Silly question, as we are on a kilt forum, but the cut of the jacket has thrown me so do you mean to go with Highland dress or "Saxon" (for want of a better word) dress?

If the later then it would be very much the less formal end of blacktie such as dinner in the country at a friend's ancestral pile.

    Lime,
The jacket is made to measure. It can be had in a length suitable for a kilt.

Certainly unusual and should cause a stir at a "black tie" event. Red tie perhaps?

    Chas,
Likely a tartan waistcoat and a wine colored jacket.

Not to dissuade you from your purchase, but the image (presumably from "makeyourownjeans" or "studiosuits") is not of their product.
It's an image of a Hugo dinner jacket that has had the shirt and trouser colour doctored (darkened) and a watermark added over the top.

I'd personally be wary of any vendor not using pics of their own product.

Thanks for the heads up. I have another jacket from this vendor which I presume is an original that worked out well. I'm just here putting things out trying to get as much information as possible before committing to the next purchase. Thanks.

Edit: I have removed the vendor from my list of clothiers. Regardless of the quality of past purchases from them, I do not knowingly buy from people that steal intellectual property from other people. The search continues.
