A wee video I came across today showing the Highland Games in Aboyne, Scotland in 1955. It's neat to see how relatively similar the games are in North America today (at least the one I've been to), save the dress of the era. That being said, the kilt outfits are worn much the same way today as they were then!

Thanks for sharing the video, Rocky. I have indeed seen it before, and there is actually a plethora of similar videos on British Pathe's website. An easy way to search for them is to simply type "kilt" in the search option. Some of my favourites include the Clan Cameron Gathering, various videos of the Braemar Gathering, and a video showing the making of perfume from Scottish Heather (shows an excellent example of traditional Highland Dress). It's definitely a good resource for a variety of intriguing videos and newsreels.

I love the Marquis of Huntly's (far right) sporran. I'm quite sure our resident sporran maker, Artificer, could easily replicate it!

Circa 1910, this shows the transition from the Victorian jackets with a short lapel to the current Argyll with a long lapel. The duke has the more modern style whilst those around him still have the older cut.

I'm happy to say I was also able to identify the location of the games and the university, which were previously unknown.

One judge was in a suit that was more baggy than two of mine. That was the first time I've seen Cumberland wrestling, which looked more like a waltz than a leverage match. Much fun to see that year in full, clear color! Very intriguing!
