    whisky aerator??!!

A question to those whose nose is more in the know than mine. I was in a local store and I saw a combo pack of wine aerator and spirits aerator. Now the spirits aerator was also a measuring jigger. My question to the rabble is would an aerator be useful for whisky in general and single malt in specific? Or would it possibly ruin the flavour of the whisky? I know that we swirl it and nose it and warm that amber nectar in the palm of our hands before savouring that uisge beathe. So has anyone seen or tried this? What say you?

I don't drink alcoholic stuff (can't stand the taste), but I'm known to safe other people some bucks.

Don't buy an aerator, it is just another ridiculous gizmo noone needs. There are thousands/millions who enjoy their wine and spirits without one. With the money you safe, you can buy a bottle of wine or something kilt related that gives you joy, while the aerator would only take up space in your kitchen.

My wife is a bartender and scotch lover. She says these aerators encourages the "breath" of the whiskey so that it becomes more aromatic. Similar to the way swirling wine around the sides of a wine glass opens up the aromas.

I've heard that aerating whiskey releases too much alcohol, and will burn your scent sensors out. Just sip it. A few drops of water will release the flavours.

As for wine aerators, just pour the wine into a glass. Boom - aerated.

Be patient, just let it evolve in the glass. The aerator does work for wine and maybe for scotch ?, if your in a rush. I prefer to let it evolve in the glass.
PS: Decanting wine almost always helps, no aerator needed.

I have been a wine judge for more than 15 years.... These aerators are basically a gimmick for doing what swirling in the glass does - whether it is whisky, whiskey or wine. Beer and sparkling wine have no need of swirling as the dissolved CO2 does this.

    Cheers....
