    I thought so too, considering around 400-500 Macphersons (Cluny's Regiment) were led by Colonel Ewan Macpherson of Cluny (Ewan of the '45) during the Jacobite Rising of 1745. Before migrating further east and settling in Badenoch, the Clan Macpherson were mainly concentrated in the west towards Lochaber and even as far as the Isles, so it is plausible that this particular Macpherson and his family never left. Or like you said, married a MacDonald lass.
