Thanks, I am thinking about using brass fittings such as the ones used by leather working to make belts to fix the bag to the cantle.
This should Allow the bag to be screwed off to change it or polish the cantle. ....what do you recon !!!

That would work or check brass lamp parts for knobs and such. That's where I got parts for my cantle projects. You could drill holes in the front and back plates to use rawhide to attach the bag to the cantle like I did on my last cantle. Artificer has some good examples of that.

Haven't considered lamp parts......Will look into that.....pardon the pun...but it may be quiet illuminating.

@jock gray, you are a very talented metalsmith! I`m looking forward to seeing your progress on this sporran. I would encourage you to start your own thread in the DIY forum. I like your drawing, too.

Don't know about talented metal Smith !!..... first attempt.
Useing the only tools at my disposal...4" cutting disc, two old files, and a set of fine nosed files, gas blow tortch ( stole the wife's out the kitchen )and some soft solder.
It started off 7" wide and 1" deep but was too bulky.
It is now 6.5" wide and only 0.75" deep.
The pull catch was made useing a brass flange which had a step in the internal diameter of the aperture, into which I fitted the earth pin of a British electrical plug socket...being flat...and soldered it all together.
Fixing it under compression useing a compressed spring, washer and pin.
I do have some brass nuts and bolts for the hinges that I will probably use.
Any advice would be most welcome.
It certainly won't have a high polished Finnish as the brass is very old and poorly formed, copper is visible within the brass sheet and is crumbling out in places due to corrosion.....giving a aged look, which will probably suit the final look !!.

Reason: explination of patina within brass sheet

That's my favourite Artificer sporran of all. Congratulations!
Have you posted a photo of it being worn in the "Artificer MOD sporrans in action" thread? I'd love to see it.
Thanks!

No, OC, I'm afraid the one time I've worn it no photos were taken... I'll try to remedy that at the upcoming Texas Scottish Festival next weekend.
