MacRurie custom weave, with great flash!

Just finished a kilt for a customer in custom weave MacRurie tartan. If you want to read about the custom weave and the colors he chose (he chose non-standard colors), have a look at the thread at http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-tartan-87002/

Here's the kilt, pleated to the stripe, in this case the narrow maroon stripe in green.

The pleats open to flash the orange stripe! The color combination of the dark maroon, dark green, and bright orange is surprising, unusual, and stunningly effective!

Wow, Barb that looks great. Such an interesting colour palette. One question: The orange stripe at the very top of the kilt, is it on the body of the kilt or on the waistband? In either case it looks great!

It's actually in the body of the kilt.

Which then leads to the question, was that intentional in your layout, or just a happy quirk? (I'm guessing more the latter) I think the orange stripe at the top gives it an more geometric look -- it's as if the kilt has a "top" to it, and really makes it look complete.

You don't actually have a choice for where to start laying out the bottom/top of a kilt, because the bottom edge of the kilt has to be the selvedge. So, the part of the tartan at top of the kilt is solely governed by the length of the kilt. If the kilt had been 1/2" shorter, the orange stripe would have been missing.
