Thank you WillowEstate, I had actually looked over that thread before joining. I wanted to put my best foot forward for the first time I wore a kilt to work. For the most part, I never dress up. I typically feel weird an uncomfortable in dress slacks, or even khakis for that matter. Jeans and t-shirt, with a hoody and ball cap. So even the casual day wear photos in that thread were what I would consider dressed up. Its not that I don't like the look of a button down with a tie and a waste coat, with pants or kilt. I think that they look sharp, and I would love to be that dapper. I just feel very uncomfortable both physically and mentally. The kilt i was wearing in the photo linked earlier in this thread was a gift many years ago from a friend that made Renn Faire clothing and is essentially a really long bolt of fabric, too long actually, that i have to pleat to wear. I have never been able to get a satisfactory pleat with it. But I wanted to look nice for work, so I chose that over a utility style kilt, which is what I wear when I am kilted.
I am saving for a wool 5 yard semi-traditional in US Army tartan. My service as well as the 3 generations before me is something that I am proud of so I want to show that. I can trace back to WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, 1st Gulf, Bosnia, and me in Iraq.

Welcome from Rowan County, NC! You aren't far away. I used to deliver radiology supplies to your neck of the woods. Got some good friends at Bragg.

Welcome from Cleveland County. Come to the Loch Norman Highland Games in April where you can find out a lot about kilts and how to wear them and some times how NOT to wear them!

I am a transplant to NC, but I find that I really like the people and the weather is far better than my home state of MI. I am looking forward to the games and festival season to kick off really soon. This will be my 3 yr old son's first time to experience them, so I am pretty excited for him, and he will be in his first kilt, and we will be building his accessories so he can look good while doing it.
