I never knew the Royal Scots pipers wore different pattern sporrans at this time; the same basic pattern, but some are black tassels on white, some are white tassels on black. And some appear (in this photo and some of the others posted on this thread) to wear tartan hose -- but which sett? The kilts would be in Black Watch tartan at this time, yes? Could the hose be Hunting Stewart?

I believe that both kilts and hoses are in Hunting Stewart tartan.

Also there is a hipotesys that it was P&D of the numerous territorial/volunteers battns that wore reversed sporrans, but it's very difficult to check due to lack of pictures/photos/descriptions...

The Regiment's pipers wore Hunting Stewart tartan from 1901 until 28th March 1633. From then it was Royal Stewart, this was to mark the 300th anniversary of the formation of the Regiment.

Besides the sporran being untidy, the hose are misaligned. I vote poser or, as discussed previously, a young lad prepared to leave for the military and wanting a memento for the family.

Yes doing the thing of wearing the diced hosetops backwards, with the seam in front!

It's an obvious and common giveaway.

And the cap badge, kilt, and sporran don't jive (though with all the territorial battalions and their quirky kit who can say).
