Wilsons of Bannockburn (Scottish Postal History Society)

Wilsons of Bannockburn by Roy Erskine (Andy Marray's grandfather)

Publisher: Scottish Postal History Society (Nov. 1 2011)
    ISBN-10: 1908139013
    ISBN-13: 978-1908139016

This is out of print but available from Amazon and the like. It's a facinating read through the medium of Wilsons' correspondence about how the postal system developed in Scotland in the early-mid 19th century.

Wilsons' international trade was very well developed by the 1820s and the uses of their tartan extensive. The section on military tartans has some interesting nuggets that help to throw light on regimental tartans at the time.

Definitley one for those with a deeper interest in Wilsons and early tartan commerce.

    Mr. MacDonald,
    Thanks for the tip.

I have a question for you and the rabble, which I will develop later this evening (EST): The Raeburn Portrait of Alexander Ranaldson MacDonell, the cadagh or hose depicted and the Menzies plate from the Vestiarium Scoticum. You can guess where I'm going. Just wanted to prime the pump.

Anyway, thanks again for the tip on this Wilson's source.

    Ryan M. Liddell
