I recently made a skirt/kilt for a lady. For all intents and purposes it is a kilt, but 40" long. I used almost 7 yards of 11oz fabric. It weighed a bit over 4 lbs when finished. The last I heard, the lady loves it.

    tartan dress

That dress is beautiful. If I thought it would fit me, I would be begging to buy it. It has been years since I have seen any dress-weight wool tartan. Maybe it is time for a pilgrimage to Portland to visit the Pendleton Mill Store.

It is always a question how closely to fit a plaid bodice. Putting darts in also breaks the lines of the tartan.
