    I second that. I have a pair of Corcoran tanker boots with the straps and and they look really good. The straps make them less military and more like a solid, somewhat retro/steampunk boot. I have toe arthritis so at the moment I only wear either Dr Martens or these boots. The Corcorans are better for my toes however, due to the reduced flexibility in the last.

    So I took the plunge and bought some of the brown WWII boots. The fit is great. I don't mind the brown paint on the side of the soles. What I do mind though is the basically orange laces, be they the leather or nylon supplied. Just plain weird. When I get home I am going to soak them in neatsfoot oil to darken and soften them.

    That's exactly what I did. In my photos above, they had been slightly darkened (and well softened) by neatsfoot oil. They have continued to darken over time, as I've worn them and re-oiled them.
