Would there be any interest - Quebec Tartan in 16oz

I have a customer who would like to have a kilt in the Quebec Canadian Provincial Tartan in 16oz wool.

Currently this Tartan is only woven in a 10oz weight.

I thought I would ask on X Marks if anyone would like to join in on a special weave. I can have this specially woven with only a 12 meter minimum.

I would need 2 more guys and we could make this happen.

The cost of a special weave in 16oz wool by Marton Mills will be $90.00cad per linear yard, double-width.

With the current US to Canadian exchange rate this would come to a very reasonable $67.50usd per linear yard, double-width. That is actually below the retail price per yard from some places. I have actually been quoted by another firm at $75.00usd plus shipping.

If you have ever admired this Tartan but held off because it is available only as a special weave, now may be your chance.

It's pretty... But to my eyes it would be a little too close to the Maple Leaf tartan in its overall coloration. But I'd love to see the final product on somebody. I'm sure it will look amazing!

There are a few images in google image search - it's primarily a strong red, navy and emerald tartan with a little white and gold. In tartan form, it's quite different from the Maple Leaf tartan in it's coloration.

Steve, am I looking at it correctly in that I see an asymmetric tartan?

No Mike, The Quebec Tartan is symmetrical. The small image has an error.

I was under the impression that the Quebec tartan is an asymmetrical (per images, and Barb's book among other resources) Of course, there may be multiple tartans attributed as the Quebec tartan - am I confusing it for something else?

Yes, Abbie I was mistaken. I just got the thread count for the Quebec Tartan.

the assymetrical portions are the small - dk blue, yellow, lt blue, & red lines. and also the dk grey, white, lt grey stripes within the red band. They are all in the same order. They are not mirror images.

The fix to this is the have the fabric woven single width or simply deal with the small stripes.

However, the small images of the Tartan from The Scottish Tartans Authority and also the Scottish Register of Tartan are incorrect too. They do not follow the thread count. The dk gray, white, lt gray should have red on both sides.

As this would be a custom run we could easily ask them to make the stripes mirror images. That way we could have this woven as double-width fabric.
