On mine, the studs are press fit into the cantle, I found this out thinking they were threaded studs, and twisted one out

This is what I use, and what Mike was referring to.

I tried the snap fasteners and found they tend to pop off. I decided to make a fastener out of leather. With a punch I cut a 1/2" diameter piece from my bag scrap and then punched an approximately 1/8 hole in the center. I wet the leather pieces (to make it easier to mount them) and then stretched them over the studs on the cantle. When they dry they hold the bag on very well. They can be taken off but won't fall off. Plus they are not bulky like the snaps and can be dyed to match the inside of the bag.

    here's what they look like

Interesting, I've never had that happen. Mine fit snug and secure.

    Two possibilities come to mind

    1) the lugs on your cantle were worn down or

    2) snaps a bit too big were used.

Artificer made a large number of bags which snapped into those MOD Culloden cantles- I wonder if he came across that problem.

That is possible but those snaps seem a bit bulky when putting my hand in the bag. I prefer the leather or machinery e-clips which also are very low profile.
