Hi and a warm welcome from sunny Queensland!

Consensus here on when to wear a fly plaid is rarely. I tried one once, an experience unlikely to be repeated!
    Regards, Sav.

Hello from Houston, TX. There are a few Celtic events in Texas to wear your kilt: Salado HG (Nov); San Antonio HG (April); Texas Scottish Festival (Arlington - May); and, Kerr County HG (Ingram) (October); North Texas Irish Festival (whenever).

Well met new friend. The advice given concerning the fly plaid also applies to the hose and flashes. Try them at different heights (with or without the flashes) and find your comfort level, even though, hose and flashes are expected with contemporary and traditional kilt attire. Glad to have you with us.

Welcome to the rabble --- from Frederick, MD. My brother's family is southeast of Houston, and I have only lived in TX (Wichita Falls) for several months some number of years ago. We are Mansons (sept of the Clan Gunn) and still trying to make the connection back to Scotland (although unofficial records indicate that our GGG Grandfather was born in Bower, Caithness in 1768).
    Regards,
    Tom
