I wear Doc Marten boots 10-eye 1919's with my kilts, both formal and casual. Formal, I wear socks pulled up. Just casual at a concert or a bar, socks slouched down. I'm not a fan of the socks pulled down over the boots, though some people are. Do what you think looks best!

When I wore combat boots with my kilt I usually just wore regular socks that would leave a few inches exposed above the boot. I thought it looked better, but with wearing work/hiking boots (or just over the ankle type) I wear hose pulled up and folded over as one normally would.

However, I only have two pair of regular hose to wear (and one pair that I reserve for dressier occasions), so I can't just wear my kilt all of the time or else risk wearing out my hose.

I normally go with work boots when non-formal and I have my hose up. For extremely hot days I have some long length dress socks that work yet are not as hot as the hose. When piping or more formal, the dress shoes are more fitting for the situation. I should also point out that in Colorado what we call formal is what the East Coast calls business casual.

At a recent games I wore boots with my hose 'sagging' (not pulled up) and after seeing photos of myself, I thought I looked like a bum, so since then my hose have been (and will be) pulled up and folded - maybe not with flashes, but certainly pulled up.
    Regards,
    Tom

    Edited to add,

Here are the boots I wear, I have a brown and black pair. The brown ones get worn 2-3 times a week, while the black ones are reserved mostly for evening wear when kilted.

Thanks for posting this link. I've worn wingtips since I graduated from college, but I've never seen wingtip boots before. Very nice!

I don't have a picture yet, but I recently got a pair of tan wingtip dress boots and occasionally wear them with my kilts. With the hose pulled up, just like I would wear with wingtip dress shoes. I have been getting lots of compliments on them.
