There was an ice storm in 1994 that crippled the northern part of the state for two weeks. It was a rare event. Usually a blizzard here lasts 36 hours, puts down 15 inches of snow and there is no trace of winter temperatures 72 hours later. I spent two weeks in Munich in 1977 (during Army NCO training) and know what winter looks like. I prefer the snow remain on the ground and temperatures hover around 30 F. for three to five months, before I think it's winter.

Can you guess why I live in Mississippi?

    Thanks

I used to study in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our countries have similiar climates, yours is just bigger with mountains and more hospitable people

Hi Iiivari and a warm welcome from sunny Queensland!

What I miss most since moving here are the frost and snow - haven't seen either in 7 years !

We lived north of Hattiesburg just a little bit, and I remember having no power for most of the day. We had fun though, going out and sledding down our hill out back.

And I prefer to experience all of the seasons, not just all in one day, or have winter be only a week long. Which is one reason (among many) that we upped and moved to Alaska. Winter wasn't terrible this year just mostly negative temperatures.
