Leggings
I am interested in the hose in the pick. Are they moggans, footless hose or what.

Bag hose, made from cloth cut on the bias.
Im not sure where the idea that they were purpose made as footless comes from, yes they would wear like that, heels and toes are the first to go.
This is the only currently known surviving set of cut cloth bag hose from the 18th Century, or before. As you can see the toes wore out and they were modified to stop them from wearing out completely.

You are a wealth of information. Luke I assume you have seen the McIan paintings of footless stockings, do you think it was artistic license?

The person in the picture on the right seems to be wearing the tartan hose over top of some tan colored regular hose. Are these designed to add extra warmth maybe?

Yes to what MacGillie says.
As for footless... they existed and go back quite a ways in different places at different times and with different names.
From, The Westminster Review, Volume 32 (1839)
This is one of the few examples that I have seen using the term "moggin." Note that these appear to be (IMO) knit stockings. It is also a bit later than the Jacobite period shown in the image above (and I wonder about the knit hose under the footless ones). I do know that a number of reenactors that I know do footless because they are simply easier to make and fit than footed ones.

Thankfully Issac has my back on this one. I have very detailed knowledge of certain things during very short spans of time and I am the first to admit that sometimes I cant see the forest for the trees, Or im lost in the forest, again and again and again and again. Off to the tube to get stuck in some post punk electroica. Thanks! LOL

Notwithstanding the claim, these hose are more likely to be early 19th century, very late 18th century at the earliest.
