    Tweed Kilts !

On my travels to the outer Hebrides- Lewis/Harris last year, I noticed a few plain tweed kilts about- looked great ! Then a few days ago at one of my fav shops in Galashiels, the owner had on display a dark charcoal tweed kilt which he had made for a customer. He said many of his younger customers were asking for plain tweed kilts. Perhaps the tartan is considered a bit " flash" for everyday wear ??! Anyone on here wear an un-patterned tweed kilt ? I'm thinking of making a billie-kilt from some dark red Harris tweed I bought a while ago

Well, I wore a very fine cloth kilt in an unusal heather brown. I'm a fan of the one color tweed kilt, which I always identify with the Irish kilt wearers. There's a need for some kilt innovation, so I say best of luck to you!

I have a brown, tweed kilt, which I bought from USA Kilts a couple of years ago. I love it!

Here I am wearing it, for reference:

It's a fine color, and I've seen many that are similarly colored. My Irish brother-in-law owns two solid green kilts.

    Thanks!

The tweed has a bit of a reddish tint to it as well, which doesn't come out too much in that picture.

Interestingly enough, I seem to get more people calling that outfit "fancy", than I do with one of my tartan kilts. I'm not sure if it's always a complement. I usually think it is, and try to take it as such, regardless! :-D

I have two that I've made, one brown and one which looks like blue denim. Both tweed, 4 yard, and quite warm. I generally wear them with a more casual look/style, compared to my tartan kilts.

I've posted this before, but this is The Mackintosh with Lloyd George and King George V at Moy Hall in 1921.
