    Sir, he's gone into Plaid!

Once upon a time, I was a young lad who was REALLY into all things Scottish... watched way too much Rob Roy, dug deep into family history, used too much printer ink printing out history articles, took high school graduation pictures in his kilt kinds of things. Of course, as tends to happen as one progresses through young adulthood, other priorities came up. Education, travel, and work took increasing amounts of time. Worst of all, the I realized I wasn't a lad anymore when inevitably, the kilt of my skinny adolescence no longer fit.

But you know what they say. Once you go plaid... well, I don't think there's a saying but we should work on that. Anyway, after many intervening years filled with moves, marriage, degrees, and desk work it looks like I'm being drawn back in. My father, somewhat elderly and faced with the prospect of his mortality, has developed a deep interest in the same family connections I learned about many years ago. My wife has developed a growing interest in Renaissance faires. Additionally, I was recently asked to participate in an event which celebrates family histories and culture of those participating, and I came to a realization.... I REALLY needed to start wearing kilts again

The fact that I'm an academic slogging through various degree programs means that I have to be judicious with my discretionary spending, and the wife frowned on the idea of using what would amount to a car payment on clothes that weren't hers ;) I did find a nice wool blend kilt for an affordable price to ease back into kilt wearing, which was quite exciting. I'm just waiting on a few other accessories, then I'll have to take some pictures to properly introduce myself to the site. Anyway, it's a pleasure to be here and I look forward to learning from your expertise!

Or, "once you go plaid, you'll always get ...", sort of in keeping with Steve's Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

Welcome, as a fellow academic the key is to save when possible and make sure you get her something shiney and distracting, a special dinner when apologizing if she discovers the price helps. I managed to convince the wife I needed one to have something special for our masters graduation. We're hoping to finish our doctorates in the next year but she does let me splurge.
