Many a QM has said "there's one size" without adding "fits all"

It appears these are held in place with a leather stable belt. That would certainly allow for production of one size, there being no need for straps/buckles for different waist sizes.

I think that is the first time I've seen a stable belt with the kilt - not that I am any authority on stable belts. I found a couple on eBay that I liked the look of - had no idea the what, when, where of them at all.

Great info! Mine is not vintage, but the pattern is of the Royal Logistics Corp, but with the dual buckles instead of the single badge buckle.

I can't remember seeing stable belts with kilts either. I've seen Highland troops wearing them with trousers.

Here's a photo of some Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in WWII where you can see the height of the kilts. The three men to the right are pipers.

But the little fella, second from the left, is not wearing a belt. Something else must be holding his kilt up. It looks horribly uncomfortable, too, hiked up to that height. With all that 18 oz wool wrapped around him, you have to wonder how the little guy could move, let alone leap out of a trench and fight.

Something I forgot to mention: the chap on the far left and the one on the far right are clearly using suspenders (braces) to hold up their kilts. This makes the belts superfluous. I still wonder what's holding up that little guy's kilt, though.
