I actually dislike the "Your house, your rules" phrase. It implies that it is me, Steve, that sets the rules.
It is actually you, the members who have told the staff how you want X Marks to be run. It was the membership who objected in the early days to the drive-by spammers. It is you, the members, that have told us that you do not want pop-up google ads flashing everywhere. That you don't want ads for viagra or LED flashlights or whatever is currently going around the web flooding these pages. It is the membership as a whole that have said repeatedly that you want me to keep X Marks free of the electronic junk mail that plagues the internet today. This same guy is over on a couple of facebook pages posting ads for his kilts. He posts the same ad everywhere he can find that has anything even remotely kilt related. On at least one page he posts an ad twice a day.
I don't view X Marks as mine. I am just the current custodian of this place. My job is to keep the forum active and on-line for the members to enjoy.
It is my job to listen to you and create the place you tell me you want. The staff just enforce the rules the membership ask us to establish.

As a moderator myself for a credit-related forum, I greatly appreciate the level of care present at this forum. It is unfortunate when new members do not follow the rules, but the rules are in place to make a better forum for everyone involved. Thank you very much for your work here!
