The reason I messaged the seller was because AFAIK that cantle was a Nicoll Brothers thing.

Below, on the lower right, the black leather sporran with the nickel cantle. The cantle is stamped Nicoll Bros Scotland on one side. Even though the Ebay sporran wasn't stamped on the back of the body, I thought it might have the stamp on the cantle.

As you can see the cantle is mostly like the common Celtic Evening pattern, but it's flat smooth metal with the knotwork "engraved" (I don't know the actual method)

Here's Gordon Walker wearing that same Nicoll Bros hunting sporran, but in brown and brass

Here's an Evening Dress sporran by Nicoll Bros currently on Ebay with the same cantle.

That brown leather Day sporran is interesting due to the badge, one that I've never seen before. It has the look of a military badge but if so it's an unfamiliar one. I think it's yet another instance of the aftermarket sticking of badges on sporrans, something that's been the ruin of many an otherwise fine sporran.

Here's another brown Day sporran for a great price, unmarked but clearly a vintage Scottish-made item, probably made prior to the advent of press buttons.

and another brown Day sporran, said to be a Scout one though it's not the usual BS pattern, but rather a standard adult pattern. It's stamped RG Lawrie, pretty cool.

Sold within a couple of hours of being listed on ebay and bargain for whoever purchased them...👍

I have watched a number of quality sporrans sell on ebay that have sold for less than £25 and in my opinion worth way more.
Sellers who possibly find themselves with highland wear to sell but unaware of the value of their item do a quick ebay/google search!!!
They see similar Pakistani copies of their item selling new for £20 - £30 on Ebay and wrongly assume their used item us worth less!
Always better to list as an auction for 7 days or more and if what you are selling is quality it will find its level and true value.

Wasnt sure what the fur was as it was too long for seal but looked very good quality.
Never thought of mink and didn't know that was an option on sporrans but you're probably correct.

Here's one of those strange aftermarket sporran modifications that are so often seen on Ebay.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Sco...temCondition=4

The sporran started life as an Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Other Ranks sporran, the "swinging six".

The tassels have been removed, the horsehair on the body of the sporran bobbed short, and a Scottish Horse badge attached. Good that the seller knows what it is! Most Ebay sellers would have touted it as "an authentic Scottish Horse sporran".

Yes indeed two lovely vintage sporrans! If I had to guess I would say 1950s at the latest, and possibly rather older than that.

That silver (probably silverplate) cantle is a style I don't recall seeing before. It has the large dome of the "G" cantle but different knotwork.

This one has a similar style back. It's a tad undersized for an adult sporran, not sure if it's a Youth's.

The seller says its 17x17cm while a vintage Day sporran I have in front of me now is 17.5x19cm.

Leather & seal sporran, sgian, waistbelt, flashes all for around $30 including shipping.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/sporran-Bel...ndition=10%7C4

The sporran has an odd look to it. I've not seen a flap like that. Also, the bells (spheres) on the tassels have a vaguely "imported" look to them, a distinctive shape I've seen on many such sporrans.
