Now this is one for the collector..!

And judging the way the price has already soared, it seems as if the collectors have been quick to spot it.

Beautifully-made by one of the best, in seldom-seen white leather and a hallmarked silver (ie, solid sterling silver) which shows it was assayed at Glasgow in 1910.

But the style of bag seems of a later era - more mid-century - so my guess is that the cantle has been reused, and that this sporran could well be a custom order.

A wonderful thing, whatever, and a bargain at the current price.

Here's a Forsyth brown Day sporran, has the deer-head logo stamped inside the flap.

I don't recall seeing the stamp on the front of the flap, I'll have to look at the old catalogues.

Here, under $50, is an old EW5 sporran (the sun-circle or goddess-eye cantle).

The auction ends in a few hours, I thought it would go higher. It's seen better days, but just the cantle is worth far more than that, when new cantles can go in the $200-300 range.

    Wow..!

It sold for £825 (approx' $1045.00 usd) which is on the high side, but about right, I feel.

The listing shows 35 bids, so there were some keen buyers chasing it.

But, as the dealers always say when a collector pays an I-must-have-it price, go and find another...

I doubt we shall see its like for a while, so the price includes a whole chunk of rarity value - a superb trophy for the lucky buyer.

    Who is not me, sadly.
