Greetings everyone. I am a complete newbie to kilts. I have always wanted one but never had taken the plunge. My fiance wants to buy me one for Christmas and before I pick one out I thought I should talk to people who already own one and can give me tips and pointers and get me headed in the right direction.

And if you want something quickly, there's nothing wrong with getting something off the rack that's affordable. You can always invest in a more substantial purchase later. As for what to get, I think it really depends on what appeals to you and how you intend to use or wear it.

Welcome from Waco. If you want to try it on before you buy it, you might check out https://www.thingsceltic.com/ in Austin. They are cheap, but you they are reasonably close to you. A lot of folks start off with Sportskilts.com as they are not 'traditional' tank kilts. Celtic Croft (an advertiser on this site) also has kilts out of various materials and prices they are at kilts-n-stuff.com
